These blades are extremely sharp and can be resharpened four or more
times. They are made from a solid piece of tungsten carbide that has had
file teeth machined into and then been affixed to a stainless steel holder
to reinforce it.
These full size (3") blades are available in three patterns - "M" (Medium), "C"
(Coarse) and "XC" (Extra-Coarse). They fit the standard 3" x 1" blade
holders with Allen Head set screws.
These blades are also available in a shorter size (1-1/2") in a fine
pattern for the Mitz Reciprocating Float.
Also available are replacement blades for our Small, Low Profile
and Mitz floats. They come complete with double-sided
tape to attach them to the float. These blades have either the same Medium cutting pattern as our full-size blade
or a Fine cutting pattern for finishing work. Like our full-sized
blades they can be resharpened.
The Fine blade is for finishing. The Medium blade, because it
has less cutting depth, is easier to maneuver in the mouth. It works best
in mouths that require only minimal maintenance. The Coarse blade is used
for removing points, reducing waves and for flattening small hooks. It is
best used in mouths that have had only minimal maintenance. The
Extra-Coarse blade is for reducing waves and for use when a tooth is too
difficult to cut. All patterns cut in only one direction. Therefore, like
conventional rasps , they function best when used in a pushing
motion.

These floats can be used with solid carbide blades,
carbide chip blades or with traditional steel rasp blades.
The Lower-Offset, Long Float (A) is used in a pushing
motion to remove points along the entire lower arcade. It is often bowed
slightly by the user to provide greater floating pressure using the upper
incisors for leverage. It can also be used to round-off the second
premolar.
The Upper/Lower, Straight- Long Float (B) is used in a
pulling motion to remove points from both the upper and lower rear molars
without damaging the mucosa. It, too, is often bowed slightly by the user
to afford better leverage.
The Upper Obtuse, Short Float (C) is used to remove points
on the forward upper molars, to shape the second premolar and to remove
small rostal hooks. It is also used for finishing.

Harlton's Low Profile Float - The Harlton's Low Profile Float is designed for finishing upper and lower rear molars with a
pull stroke. It is 21" long overall and comes complete with a Medium
cutting pattern, specially-sized solid tungsten carbide blade that can be
resharpened. A Fine cutting pattern for finishing
is also available.

These Small Floats are scaled-down versions of our regular sized
Standard Floats for use in the tight confines of the smaller mouths of
young and miniature horses. The three available styles are:
Lower
Offset, Long (15-1/4") (A), Upper/Lower, Straight Long (15-1/4")
(B) and Upper/Obtuse Short (12-3/4") (C).
These floats have a lower and narrower profile that is much easier and
safer to use. They are as strong as our regular floats; just lighter and
more compact. The handles are the same size but the shanks are
proportionately shorter. They also have an integral specially sized, solid tungsten
carbide blade with a Medium cutting pattern which can be resharpened or
replaced. A Fine blade for finishing is also available.

"S" files are two-sided files that are used for finishing and for floating areas in
the mouth that are difficult to reach with a standard float or large rasp.
To make them more versatile, "S" files often have different
grits on each side to provide both concave and convex surfaces with
different abrasion levels. They are available in three sizes for specific
applications and in regular steel and rust-resistant stainless steel which
can be regritted.
Small
Diamond "S" File
The small diamond "S" file measures 7" long by
3/4" wide. Its cutting surface is coated with diamond chips and
it is used for final finishing.
Small Tungsten Carbide "S" File
The small "S" file measures 12" long by 3/4" wide. It is used for final finishing in harder to reach areas. We offer
this size in a copper painted regular steel version with either
Fine/Medium grits or Medium/Coarse grits and in stainless steel with
Fine/Medium grits.

Standard Incisor Rasps
These large files are used for leveling-out incisors and long molars and for flattening waves. They have medium grit tungsten
carbide on one side and coarse grit on the other. Only 5" of the file
is gritted to protect the user’s hands and the horse’s mouth. The grit
on the medium side extends all the way to the edge of the file to
facilitate an even finish on incisors while the grit on the coarse side is
indented slightly to protect delicate gum and cheek tissue. Available in
copper painted, 1 3/4" wide, standard steel and in a 1 1/2"
wide, rust-resistant, stainless steel model which can be regritted. Both
are 14" long and can be ordered with or without a wooden blacksmith
rasp handle.
