McPherson SpeculumsThese are the traditional full-mouth speculums that have been in use for many years. We offer several styles depending on the level of quality and finish you desire, the features you need and your budget. We also offer a "mini" version that is suitable for ponies, foals, neonates and some miniature horses. Standard Models - We offer two Standard Models. Both are made in the United States. The less expensive model is made of a nickel plated, cast iron alloy and has leather straps. The other model is made of stainless steel and also has leather straps. These two models are best suited for those who only occasionally use a speculum. Replacement parts are available. Premium Models - Our Premium Models are made in Australia from a forty-ton, high tensile strength bronze alloy. They come with special neoprene straps that are supple yet virtually indestructible in daily use and replacement parts are available. Two versions are available. One for full-size horses and a smaller version for ponies, foals, neonates and some miniature horses. The latter comes with two sets of incisor cups - one smaller and one larger. Our Premium Models are ideal for those who routinely do dental work and want a unit that is nicely finished and will not rust or tarnish when properly cared for. Replacement parts are available. Deluxe Models - These are the finest speculums on the market. They are made in the USA of stainless steel and several versions are available. The one we feature has been highly polished and has premium blond strap leather, stitched and oiled with waxed and hand rubbed edges. Replacement parts are available. Also available are less expensive versions of this speculum which feature the same stainless steel frame, but with an unpolished finish, with less expensive leather straps, or no straps at all. McPherson Speculum Spreader Bar KitThe Spreader Bar Kit gives greater stabilization to McPherson style speculums. The bar also helps to hold the speculum side plates away from the horse's cheeks and keeps it from collapsing if the horse is suspended. The Spreader Bar Kit comes with bar, straps, and mounting hardware.
Speculum LightsWe offer two speculum lights, the Spec BiteLite™ and the Deluxe Spec BiteLite™. Both attach to the speculum and illuminate the entire mouth. The Standard BiteLite™ attaches to the top bars of the speculum
and has an external battery. It is made of a space age polymer that is
waterproof and has no glass parts. It is powered by four AA batteries which
last approximately for 30 hours and has a permanent bulb that lasts for
100,000 hours. The Deluxe Spec BiteLite™ is designed to replace the bite plates on standard-sized McPherson style speculums and has an integral battery. The bite plates are our deluxe bite plates which provide much better retention of the horse's incisors. The light itself is extremely bright and illuminates the full arcade. It is powered by four AA batteries and is completely waterproof.

Mouth Wedges
The design of this premium wedge permits several teeth to rest on it at
one time. This keeps it from slipping and spreads the force across several
teeth to reduce the danger of cracking. Additionally, the wedge portion is
covered with a thick piece of neoprene making it more comfortable
for the horse. And, because this surface is so comfortable, the horse
doesn't fight it, the neoprene doesn't wear quickly and your work is safer,
quicker and easier.
The length of the mouthpiece is 3 1/4" and it is 1 1/2" wide. The height (at widest part) is 2" and the length of the handle is 8 1/2". The neoprene replacement kit contains two neoprene pads, eight screws and an Allen-head wrench.

Our headrests are made of lightweight aluminum and feature a tip
resistant base, twist-proof square shank and infinite-height adjustment
lock. In addition, they are powder coated to make cleanup easy. They can be
quickly disassembled for transportation and storage.
Our new "cradle style" headrest features next generation ergonomics that hold the horse steadier than traditional headstands. This new design provides a large, flat resting area for the horse's head. Unlike most headstands, which have a rounded and narrow "u"-shaped chin rest, this large padded platform with gradually sloping sides is more stable. Thus, it is both more secure for a sedated horse and places less strain on the mandible.
